INEC IN COLLABORATION WITH THE UGHELLI NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS MEETING TO FLAG OFF CONTINUOUS VOTERS REGISTRATION (CVR) EXERCISE IN UGHELLI NORTH LGA
.. As Jaro Egbo urged Residents who are eligible voters to take advantage of this opportunity to get themselves registered, he assured INEC of the council's support throughout the registration process.
Earlier today the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in collaboration with the Ughelli North Local Government Council, held a stakeholder meeting on the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise that kicked off on the 18th August, 2025 with the in-person component of the CVR expected to commence on the 25th August, 2025 at the INEC office, Ughelli North LGA.
In his welcome address, the Ughelli North Council Boss, Olorogun (Barr) Jaro Movudu Egbo Ksc, who was ably represented by the Head of Personnel Management of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun (Mrs) Mary Iroro Ofogbor, said that the CVR is a very important aspect in ensuring that a country's democracy is strengthened because it gives all eligible citizens the right to participate in the electoral process.
"This exercise is very crucial to the strengthening of our democracy, it allows eligible residents to register as new voters, replace lost, defaced, or damaged permanent voters' Cards (PVCs), and also to transfer their voting rights from one polling Unit to another, in line with the provision of the law ". Egbo said.
'The power to shape the future of our nation and our community lies in our collective participation in the electoral process, the Voter's card is not just a piece of plastic, it is the key to choosing Leaders who will define our tomorrow" Egbo added
The Chairman assured INEC of the Council's Continued support and to provide an enabling environment for a smooth and hitch- free exercise for her officials across the local Government Area, as he also urged residents - youths, women, men, artisans, traders, professionals and every eligible person to take advantage of this window and ensure that they are properly captured in the voters' register so that Ughellli North can continue to maintain the lead as the council with the highest number of registered voters in Delta State.
On the part of the INEC Electoral Officer, Ughelli North LGA, Mr Samuel Osolease, thanked the Ughelli North Council Boss, Olorogun Jaro Egbo for his unwavering support and commitment towards the realization of the commission's aspirations. He calls for the support from relevant stakeholders including the Traditional institutions, Religious Leaders, Youths and Women leaders etc to assist the commission in mobilizing citizens to come in their numbers to be registered as well as to collect their PVCs, adding that those below the voting age of 18 years are not allowed to register, and it is crime to register an under- age children.
The meeting was well attended by Principal Council officials, Councilors, security Agencies, Representatives of Traditional Rulers, Presidents Generals, Market Leaders, Religious Leaders, political parties, Members of NURTW, Pressmen, etc
