UNN Confers Honorary Doctorate On Chief Andy Oru, With Jaro Egbo In Attendance.
Nsukka, Enugu State – July 26, 2025 – The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has conferred an honorary Doctor of Public Administration (DPA, Honoris Causa) on Chief Andy Oru during its 54th Convocation Ceremony. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to public service and community development.
The well-attended event featured Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo Ksc Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government, who came in support of Chief Oru, highlighting the strong community bonds and shared values of leadership between them. Egbo praised Oru as "a beacon of excellence and a true Son of Delta State," stating that the honour brings pride to Ughelli North and beyond.
UNN's Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Theophilus Oguejiofor Ujam, described Chief Oru as one of the seven eminent Nigerians selected for their selfless service and impact, calling the award a tribute to Oru’s dedication to national growth.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Oru expressed deep gratitude to UNN, his supporters, and especially Olorogun Egbo for their encouragement. He vowed to continue championing causes that benefit the nation.
The convocation also honored other distinguished Nigerians, with cultural performances and tributes that elevated the ceremony’s prestige. The presence of top dignitaries, including Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who sent a congratulatory message, added to the occasion’s significance.
The event reaffirmed UNN’s role in celebrating leadership excellence and fostering societal development through academic recognition.
